A Mumbai night out is a series of rooms with different air in each. Aaranya is Calabrian bergamot over Sichuan pepper, lavender and star anise, on Papua New Guinea vanilla and ambroxan. It is frequently assumed to be woody and has no wood notes at all; what it has is warmth. From December to February, when Mumbai is genuinely pleasant and drier, it is one of the best evening scents you can wear here — and it works year-round inside heavy air conditioning. Kusum — for a quieter evening
Kusum is jasmine into tuberose over rangoon creeper, and nothing beneath. Beautiful for a dinner or a low-key evening in the cooler months. Not a dancefloor scent: a large white floral over warm skin in a humid Mumbai club is a lot.
